Horoscope for December 30, 2007

Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 19)

All the power is completely in your hands today. That means that if you see something you don’t like too much, you should do something about it! This rule applies to emotional issues as well as professional situations, so be prepared to pull someone aside for a quiet heart-to-heart in order to smooth over a sensitive topic. To counteract potential problems or conflicts, try to avoid whatever makes you uncomfortable or puts you in a negative state of mind.

Taurus (Apr 20 - May 20)

If you are in the midst of a project or venture right now, today is the perfect day to try to wrap it up. Anything brought to completion right now has a good chance for long term success, and perhaps even fame. If you are contemplating starting something new today, first make sure you have finished other projects. Try not to let things languish in the zone of the incomplete. After all, you can’t feel accomplished until you finish the final chapter.

Gemini (May 21 - Jun 21)

A big personality who is long on talking and short on doing will frustrate you today. Beware of the people who brag the most, because they usually have the least to brag about. This person is all talk and no action — and they are absolutely no threat to you whatsoever. Your best tactic is to keep your head down, embrace modesty and let your actions speak for you. Making a lot of noise and churning up heaps of hot air has never been your style, so don’t start it now!

Cancer (Jun 22 - Jul 22)

It’s a great day for spending quality time with friends. Pick something casual to do, so no one feels the need to host or make a fancy fuss. Schedule a lunch or small day trip to get in some good ‘together’ time. No one else can help you think through your latest issues in life as well as they can, and it is always rejuvenating to talk about your hopes and desires with people who understand you so well. Someone’s been dying to share their news, and this will be the perfect excuse to

Leo (Jul 23 - Aug 22)

One or two unexpected issues around your house or home will force you into a not-so-graceful juggling act today, but all the elements in your life will be fine by the end of the day. This is just a necessary realignment, that’s all. Think of it as a chiropractic appointment for the spine of your organization. One quick twist will put things back in a more efficient and pleasant combination. Try to leave your schedule as open as possible to accommodate the reshuffling.

Virgo (Aug 23 - Sep 22)

Any old plans would be good plans for you and a friend today — except for a trip to the shopping mall. You need to watch out for impulse buying right now. And while you are perfectly capable of doing a few laps around the mall without melting your credit card, why push it? Suggest a movie or something else that will keep you occupied for a long period of time. Or try for an outdoor activity. If the weather is nice, how about taking a long walk and just catching up?

Libra (Sep 23 - Oct 22)

Social invitations, shameless flirts and amazing travel opportunities are all wonderful things to encounter in your life. But today, you need to try to avoid them! Keep away from anything that could lure you away from your primary focus. Whether you are trying to accomplish a work goal, study for an important exam, or just work up the courage to ask someone out, you do not need anything to distract you. Isolate yourself from the parties and stick to serious subjects.

Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21)

The mists of your memories will do nothing but cloud your vision today — and you will need clarity to make some important decisions. So try to live in the present moment each step of the way today. Face forward and keep thinking about the next adventure instead of leaving some of your heart in the past. Dwelling on past failures — or past successes — is nothing but a waste of time. Turn away from your memories and toward the opportunities that will be coming your way.

Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21)

Have you been feeling a time-crunch lately? If you are looking for more time, first you must decide what you need that extra time for. If it’s a matter of finding more time to spend with loved ones, then the solution is simple — reschedule business in order to make room for the personal. But if you need more time to be by yourself, then that might need to wait a while. Right now, the priority is turning away from solace and toward socializing more with the people you care about.

Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 19

You are about to enter a placid, worry-free time, when fun and feeling good are the name of the game. The world will suddenly feel like a giant amusement park, with stimulating sights and thrilling rides at every turn. This is a great time to begin exploring a new hobby, interest or career opportunity you have been thinking about. Your brain is open to new ideas and new ways of doing things. The proverbial old dog is ready to learn some new tricks!

Aquarius (Jan 20 - Feb 18)

Mixing up your social circle is good for your social life, so consider how you can connect with someone you normally would not spend time with today. It doesn’t have to be a long, extended date — just time enough to establish a new familiarity. Sit next to a different person at lunch, or strike up a conversation with a stranger while standing in line. Exchanging a short round of small talk might be all it takes to remind you of the goodness of people.

Pisces (Feb 19 - Mar 20)

In a group situation today, someone will throw out an unusual idea that might cause the room to fall into an uncomfortable hush — because innovation can make people feel awkward. If they have never experienced something before, they don’t know how to react. But if you can identify with this idea and have your own thoughts about how to improve upon it, speak right up. Having the courage to respect a new idea and build upon it is a key quality in a great leader.

NEW YEAR TRADITIONS

Other traditions of the season include the making of New Year’s resolutions. That tradition also dates back to the early Babylonians. Popular modern resolutions might include the promise to lose weight or quit smoking. The early Babylonian’s most popular resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment.

The Tournament of Roses Parade dates back to 1886. In that year, members of the Valley Hunt Club decorated their carriages with flowers. It celebrated the ripening of the orange crop in California.

Although the Rose Bowl football game was first played as a part of the Tournament of Roses in 1902, it was replaced by Roman chariot races the following year. In 1916, the football game returned as the sports centerpiece of the festival.

The tradition of using a baby to signify the new year was begun in Greece around 600 BC. It was their tradition at that time to celebrate their god of wine, Dionysus, by parading a baby in a basket, representing the annual rebirth of that god as the spirit of fertility. Early Egyptians also used a baby as a symbol of rebirth.

Although the early Christians denounced the practice as pagan, the popularity of the baby as a symbol of rebirth forced the Church to reevaluate its position. The Church finally allowed its members to celebrate the new year with a baby, which was to symbolize the birth of the baby Jesus.

The use of an image of a baby with a New Years banner as a symbolic representation of the new year was brought to early America by the Germans. They had used the effigy since the fourteenth century.

THE CHURCH’S VIEW OF NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS

Although in the first centuries AD the Romans continued celebrating the new year, the early Catholic Church condemned the festivities as paganism. But as Christianity became more widespread, the early church began having its own religious observances concurrently with many of the pagan celebrations, and New Year’s Day was no different. New Years is still observed as the Feast of Christ’s Circumcision by some denominations. During the Middle Ages, the Church remained opposed to celebrating New Years. January 1 has been celebrated as a holiday by Western nations for only about the past 400 years.

ANCIENT NEW YEARS

The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon (actually the first visible cresent) after the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring).

The beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year. After all, it is the season of rebirth, of planting new crops, and of blossoming. January 1, on the other hand, has no astronomical nor agricultural significance. It is purely arbitrary.

The Babylonian new year celebration lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration, but it is safe to say that modern New Year’s Eve festivities pale in comparison.

The Romans continued to observe the new year in late March, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various emperors so that the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun.

In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the new year. But tampering continued until Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, established what has come to be known as the Julian Calendar. It again established January 1 as the new year. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days.

Bunyag

This day is the “bunyag” of my “pamangkin”. His name is Vladimir Ivan Jumawan, the son of my big sister. I’m in charge in the food, so I’m so very busy lately in this morning, like going to the bakeshop and get the cake for the our “handaan” in lunch time, set the table and etc.. Ivan has many “ninongs” and ”ninangs” , I don’t know how many it is but I’m so very sure because of the visitors that arrived in this morning. After eating for lunch, I’m so tired and I don’t know what to do because I don’t  have a person/people that will accompany me, because all of them are to old for me to jam with. And the thing that only I can do is to wait for the time pass and go to our small house at “bangkal” and rest, rest, rest and rest! But when we got home, my friend ask me if I will play basketball and I can’t resist from playing because it since 3 weeks that I haven’t played with them. And now I’m so tired and wasted, but I enjoyed my day with a big smile on my face.Smiling

When I met you

There I was an empty piece of a shell,
Just mindin’ my own world;
Without even knowin’ what love and life were all about.

Then you came,
You brought me out of the shell;
You gave the world to me
And before I knew,
There I was so in love with you.

You gave me a reason for my being
And I love what I’m feelin’
You gave me a meaning to my life,
Yes, I’ve gone beyond existing
And it all began when I met you.

I love the touch of your hair
And when I look in your eyes
I just know, I know I’m on to something good

And I’m sure my love for you will endure
Your love will light up my world;
And take all my cares away with the aching part of me.

You gave me a reason for my being
And I love what I’m feelin’
You gave me a meaning to my life,
Yes, I’ve gone beyond existing
And it all began when I met you.

You taught me how to love,
You showed me how tomorrow and today
My life is diff’rent from the yesterday;
And you, you taught me how to love
And darling I will always cherish you
Today, tomorrow and forever.

And I’m sure when evening comes around
I know we’ll be making love like never before;
My love, who could ask for more?

You gave me a reason for my being
And I love what I’m feelin’
You gave me a meaning to my life,
Yes, I’ve gone beyond existing
And it all began when I met you.
When I met you.

You gave me a reason for my being
And I love what I’m feelin’
You gave me a meaning to my life,
Yes, I’ve gone beyond existing
And it all began when I met you.
When I met you.

Last day of Exam

Yes! What a relief, we have finally finished our last 2 exams. Our first exam is theology (theo 4) or the “Church and Sacraments” and the second test is the IT225 or the “Database Management”. In the theology, we have some problems to answer the questions. Because we don’t studied the subject so well and it is too difficult to answer those questions. In the IT225 on the first part of the exam it is not so critical. But on the second part in making ERD, we have a big problem in #9 because its hard to analyze the situation. But we finally finished our exam, and now we can go out and have a PARTY!

I Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil,
but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails
