Ivatan Houses
Only three of the ten islands of Batanes are inhabited by native Inavitans. To withstand the constant battering of typhoons that visits the islands regularly, this hardy trip builds its home with walls of solid limestone and roofs multi-layered wuth cogon grass. Not found anywhere else in the country, these homes are small, low and fortress-like with small windows on three sides; the window-less wall faces the direction from where strong winds most usually emanate.
